Now Playing at a Theater Near You

As we all know there's been a lot that's happened to our church and the world recently, and I suppose I could write about some of that, but instead, I'm going to tell you about something far more important: Coyote vs. Acme! It's the heartwarming story of a single coyote who takes on the world's largest--and most shameless--corporation. The coyote, of course, is Wile E. Coyote, and while you might think the shameless corporation is some social media company, it is in fact the Acme Corporation.

And why is Wile E. Coyote suing the Acme Corporation ("for over 60 years, the leaders in creative mayhem")? Are you kidding me? For decades he's been buying products from the Acme Corporation, rocket-powered roller skates, train tunnel paint, parachutes, catapults, you name it, and for decades Acme's products have consistently, and spectacularly, failed him, causing him great bodily harm and mental anguish.

And now, he's decided to get even. By suing the Acme Corporation over every single product Acme has ever made.

I'm talking about a movie, of course, and one that's playing at a theater near you right now. The picture features all of your favorite Looney Tunes characters: Buggs, Daffy, Porky, Tweety, Foghorn Leghorn, and, of course Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner. And a few real live people as well: Will Forte, who plays the low-rent shyster who represents our hero; Jon Cena, who plays Acme's comically high-powered senior corporate shill; and Lana Condon, who plays Forte's idealistic co-counsel and Girl Friday.

The movie has an interesting backstory. It was completed in 2023, and then Warner Brothers decided not to release it, and instead take a $30 million tax-write off. But Looney Tunes fans, like Wile E. himself, are enterprising, persistent souls, and after a couple of years of campaigning, Warner was convinced to give the film to an indie outfit, Ketchup Entertainment, to release in theaters.

And it was worth the wait. If you love classic toon characters (and all right-thinking people do) then you'll be delighted to see all your old favorites back in action; but even if you don't the picture is still actually, a heart-warming underdog story about loveable misfits whose ultimate victory represents a triumph of good over evil.

So, if you're looking for an enjoyable afternoon or evening out, get to your nearest theater and take in Coyote vs. Acme. You'll be glad you did.  Oh, and, yes, it does feature things getting blown up. And anvils. Lots of anvils.
